Personalized Detox Protocols in Beaverton

We are exposed to many toxins and toxicants in our daily lives and sometimes additional support is needed to help the body clear those toxins out.

Some toxins, particularly mold toxins, can inhibit the body's ability to detoxify. That means that toxins and toxicants that would normally be eliminated can stay in the body longer.
Additionally, toxins and toxicants can change the internal terrain in ways that allow for microbial imbalances. We have found that many patients with chronic or recurrent microbial imbalances like Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), yeast/candida overgrowth, and parasites often have substantial toxic burdens. When those toxic burdens are addressed, the microbial imbalances are usually much easier to treat and resolve.
At Apricot Health Clinic we take a whole person approach and often this means going through a detoxification protocol to remove barriers to optimal health. How do we know what to recommend for detoxification? We test. With extensive testing we can tailor a detoxification protocol for each individual patient.

Our Approach
Baseline Tests
If a toxic burden is suspected we recommend an extensive urine test that assess for presence of mold toxins, heavy metals, and man-made chemicals. This gives us the information we need to tailor an individualized treatment program for each patient.

Protocol
With the detailed information we get from the Total Tox Burden test, we develop a treatment strategy using natural products that we have carefully selected from multiple top brands.
We do not use only one brand because we understand that every natural product company has its strength and weaknesses. Our goal is to select the best for our patients.
Retest
How do we know when it is time to discontinue the detoxification protocol? We Retest!

Depending on the toxins and toxicants present on the first test, we will typically retest in 6 months to determine if we have reached our end point or if we need to adjust our protocol.

Very often, after the body releases its most accessible toxic burden, it will start to release older toxins that have been sequestered into deeper tissues in the body. Therefore it is not uncommon for people with a significant history of toxin/toxicant exposure that they will experience some elevations in certain toxins or toxicants after their first round of detoxification. With a follow up test we can determine where we are in the detox proc.

The "Protocol" and "Retest" steps may be repeated a few times when needed to ensure we clear the system as much as possible.

Who to See For Detox
Both Dr. Meg Chuang, ND, LAc and Dr. Andrew von Plitt, ND offer personalized detox protocols using similar methodology.
Dr. Chuang offers Chinese medicine support to her protocols that can be invaluable for patients including acupuncture which can help with detoxification symptoms, and custom, personalized Chinese medicine herbal formulas that can support a patients individual constitution during the detoxification process. She also uses Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis to gain a deeper understanding of the state of health in her patients to better inform her treatment protocol.

Dr. von Plitt combines his detoxification protocols with manual therapies that can help support nervous system reset/regulation. This can be very helpful since toxic burdens can often cause a lot of nervous system dysregulation. Additionally, he uses Applied Kinesiology to help better understand each patient's individual needs beyond what the Total Tox Burden test can tell him.
